[ARCHIVED] Hamilton Receives $1.3 Million in Grants for Repaving Sections of Klockner Road

2025 Municipal Aid Program Grant KlocknerHamilton Township is pleased to announce a significant investment in local infrastructure, by securing a total of $1,300,028 in grants aimed at improving Klockner Road.

This funding includes $600,028 from the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) and an additional $700,000 from the Local Transportation Projects Fund. The NJDOT’s Municipal Aid Program is highly competitive, with 595 applications submitted requesting over $375 million in funding. Hamilton Township is proud to be among the select municipalities chosen to benefit from this program.

Klockner Road is a vital road, providing essential access for residents, businesses, and schools throughout Hamilton Township. This route connects several key locations, including the United States Postal Service facility, NJ State Police Troop Headquarters, and is a designated NJ Transit Bus Route with convenient stops. Furthermore, Klockner Road provides connectivity to the Hamilton Train Station and Interstate 295, as well as the area between Nottingham Way and East State Street Extension.

The impact of severe weather has taken a toll on the roadway, resulting in a pressing need for improvements to ensure safety and preserve the integrity of this critical transportation connection. While ongoing repairs have been made, substantial enhancements are necessary for a long-lasting solution that meets the needs of the community.

The Township is planning to repair two sections of Klockner Road in 2026. One section will extend from Route 130 to Negron Drive, and from Nottingham Way to Sloan Avenue. The improvements will involve milling, resurfacing, and paving the road. Additionally, the Township intends to enhance safety features by adding rumble strips to alert drivers who veer out of their lanes, improving crosswalk visibility, installing flashing beacons near schools, and upgrading certain sidewalks if necessary.

"We are dedicated to providing Hamilton taxpayers with the road repairs they have been longing for," said Mayor Martin. "Although there is plenty of repairs to tackle, we are making strides by completing as many projects as possible while keeping taxes steady."

Motorists will be notified when the project is set to begin. For further information and updates regarding the project, please reach out to the Hamilton Township Department of Public Works.
