Hamilton Township Receives $487,584 Municipal Aid Grant from the Department of Transportation

Township News Posted on December 02, 2025

On November 17, Governor Phil Murphy announced that Hamilton Township was among the municipalities awarded funding through the New Jersey Department of Transportation’s (NJDOT) Municipal Aid Grant Program. The Township received $487,584 to support ongoing improvements to Kuser Road over the next year, part of the state’s broader effort to enhance local roads, bridges, safety, and overall quality of life.

Hamilton Township is committed to enhancing Kuser Road with a focus on improving safety and overall roadway conditions for both drivers and pedestrians. The awarded grant amount of $487,584 will be allocated to upgrade Kuser Road, specifically between Whitehorse Avenue and Dolci Drive, which requires several roadway improvements. These enhancements will include milling and resurfacing the road, replacing 1,200 linear feet of curbs, and 800 square feet of sidewalks. Additionally, roadway striping will be implemented, and all crosswalks will be updated to ensure ADA compliance.

Earlier this year, the Township received an additional $700,000 in grant funding to enhance a separate segment of Kuser Road near Route 130. That project includes the full reconstruction of traffic signals with optimized timing and improved visibility; new ADA-compliant curb ramps with detectable warning surfaces; upgraded pedestrian push buttons and signal heads; refreshed pavement markings; clearly defined crosswalks at all approaches; and 800 linear feet of new sidewalk connecting the intersection to existing pedestrian routes along Kuser Road.

“We are excited to announce this additional funding for Kuser Road,” said Mayor Jeff Martin. “These grants help ensure safe roadways for all, especially those with disabilities. The more funding we secure, the less our residents need to worry about the impact on property taxes—particularly as the community continues to call for roadway improvements and stronger pedestrian-safety measures.”

Motorists will be notified once construction is scheduled to begin. For more information or project updates, please contact the Hamilton Township Department of Public Works.
