Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash
On November 7th, 2024 at approximately 4:01 p.m., a fatal MVA involving a pedestrian occurred on S. Olden Ave near the intersection with Riley Ave. The area of S. Olden Ave where the collision occurred runs in an east to west direction geographically.
The incident involved a 2011 Ford Escape driven by Craig Gomez, a 57-year-old male from Hamilton Twp, which was traveling in the westbound direction on S. Olden Ave. Upon nearing the intersection with Riley Ave, Namtho Trinh, a 67-year-old male from Hamilton Twp, entered the roadway heading south toward the opposite side of S. Olden Ave. Mr. Trinh was struck by the front passenger side of the Ford Escape. Following the collision, Mr. Trinh was transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center via ambulance where he was declared deceased.
The preliminary investigation appears to indicate that Mr. Trinh may have entered the roadway in an inattentive manner. Additionally, the sun glare present at the time of the incident for westbound traffic may have contributed to reduced visibility for the operator of the vehicle. Excessive speed does not appear to be a contributing factor.
Assistance at the scene was provided by the Hamilton Township Fire Division. The roadway was temporarily closed with assistance from the volunteer Hamilton Fire/Police.
The crash is being investigated by Officer M. Mancuso of the Hamilton Police Traffic Unit. Any witnesses are asked to contact the Hamilton Police Traffic Unit at (609) 581-4000.
