Criminal Attempt / Weapons Offenses

Hamilton, NJ — The Hamilton Police Division recognizes the outstanding police work of its officers in the apprehension of a suspect in an attempted motor vehicle theft. At approximately 10:40 a.m. on Friday March 21, 2025, police responded to a report of an attempted vehicle theft in the area of 208 Bonnie Avenue.
Eric Cano, an 18-year-old resident of Trenton, NJ, was located inside of a motor vehicle in front of 208 Bonnie Avenue. He was arrested and charged with criminal mischief, possession of burglar tools, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of prohibited weapons, including a large capacity magazine and hollow point rounds.
Officer Jean Ortega (#439) took Mr. Cano into custody as he exited the vehicle without incident and transported him to Police Headquarters. A subsequent interview conducted by Detective Christopher Pullen (#438) led to a firearm being recovered. Officers T. Kelly, S. Elmer, and Sergeant N. Gordon assisted in the arrest and recovery efforts.
