Mayor Martin was present to welcome Matakas Jiu Jitsu with a ribbon-cutting of its newest Hamilton location on Friday, November 14, 2025. Located in the Clover Plaza on Quakerbridge Road, it marks the school’s second location and its first in Hamilton.
Matakas Jiu Jitsu is owned by lifelong Hamilton resident and Steinert High School graduate, Professor Chris Matakas who is excited to bring world-class Jiu Jitsu instruction to his hometown community.
Professor Chris Matakas founded the original Matakas Jiu Jitsu Academy in Florence, NJ in 2017, building a strong reputation for high-quality instruction focused on both self-defense and personal development. A 2nd-degree black belt, competitive champion, and 15-time author, Professor Matakas has earned recognition for helping shift the global Jiu Jitsu community toward a deeper emphasis on mindset, character, and personal growth.
“We’re thrilled to return to the community that shaped us and offer a place where both kids and adults can grow stronger—physically, mentally, and emotionally—through Jiu Jitsu,” said owner Chris Matakas.
The new Hamilton location offers programs for all ages, beginning with Tiny Tykes (ages 4–5), Youth programs, and a full adult curriculum. Whether students are looking to build confidence, learn practical self-defense, or pursue athletic competition, Matakas Jiu Jitsu provides a supportive and structured environment for every goal.
Matakas Jiu Jitsu is now open and Chris, along with lead instructor, Professor Jim O'Boyle are excited to welcome new members. For more information visit Matakasbjj.com or stop by the new Hamilton academy.
