Hamilton Township Announces the 2022 Environmental Award Recipients – GeoGreens & Scout BSA Troop 91

Mayor Jeff Martin and the Hamilton Township Environmental Advisory Commission are pleased to announce that GeoGreens and Scout BSA Troop 91 are the 2022 Environmental Award recipients. Both to be honored at an award ceremony on the morning of Friday, December 2, 2022.

The Environmental Awards program recognizes those implementing sustainable actions to improve and protect Hamilton Township's environment and contribute to a cleaner, healthier community. Successful candidates showed measurable environmental, economic, and social benefits from projects or programs of tangible value to the community or the public.

"Everyone should be proud of these offerings and many services to make Hamilton a better place. Both showed clear leadership in their actions, and both are dedicated to continuing to benefit the community," shared John Balletto, Chairman of the Hamilton Township Environmental Advisory Commission.

GeoGreens, owned and operated by Desmond Hayes and staff, is a hydroponics vertical farm. It is a modernized-style farmers' market where members tour, are educated on indoor growing, and buy fresh produce and dozens of herbs, leafy greens, micro greens, and other items all year long. It conserves both energy and water. The plan is to bring people back to natural healthy eating.

Scout Troop 91 and its members and leaders, like Scoutmaster Jeff Weber, have long acted to beautify the Township. They perform volunteer services on mostly conservation projects. They spent over 550 hours at Veterans Park, adding mulch, removing trash and debris, and building bat boxes. At Morgan Elementary School, they created an outdoor classroom to improve students' physical and mental health. At Sayen Gardens, they built kiosks to educate the public about native plants and how to help them thrive amid invasive species.

"GeoGreens and Scout Troop 91 have surpassed their expectations in service to our community," stated Mayor Jeff Martin. "Each has helped Hamilton be a better sustainable and environmentally friendly community through education and action and deserves to be recognized for their achievements."

The public is welcome to join Mayor Martin and the Environmental Commission on Friday, December 2, 2022, at 10 AM at the Call Center Training Facility at 5 Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr., Way to recognize GeoGreens and Scout BSA Troop 91.
