Mayor Jeff Martin of Hamilton is the new 1st Vice President of the New Jersey State League of Municipalities. Mayor Martin was elected at the League of Municipalities’ Annual Business Meeting in Atlantic City.
As 1st Vice President of the New Jersey State League of Municipalities, Mayor Martin will help lead the Association of New Jersey’s 564 municipal governments. He will represent the interests and needs of New Jersey’s local elected officials to county, state, and federal governments.
Mayor Martin joined the League’s Executive Board in 2020 and was selected by the New Jersey State League of Municipalities Officers and Executive Board members to serve as 2nd Vice President, replacing Westfield Mayor Shelley Brindle as an Officer earlier this year.
Mayor Martin represents Hamilton in Mercer County, the ninth-largest municipality in New Jersey with more than 92,000 residents and over 656 employees. He presides over a budget of more than $150 million in annual revenue/appropriations. He has led the effort to consolidate and merge nine separate fire districts into one municipal fire department–saving township residents more than $1.5 million per year. Mayor Martin directed the township’s response during COVID-19 and numerous emergency operations.
Previously he was General Counsel at Borden Perlman Insurance and Staff Counsel at Farmers Insurance, and Assistant Staff Judge Advocate and Defense Counsel for the U.S. Air Force’s Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps. He served as a Councilman for Hamilton from 2018-2019. Mayor Martin received his Bachelor of Arts from the College of New Jersey, his Juris Doctor from Rutgers University, and a Masters of Law from the University of Connecticut. Mayor Martin and his wife, Scarlett, have a daughter, Olivia.
