Happy Memorial Day from Mayor John Bencivengo
Unfortunately, I will be unable to attend our local Memorial Day Parades due to my surgery this week, I want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Happy Memorial Day.
Whether you spend this weekend enjoying one of our local parades or a barbecue with family and friends, I hope you will join me in honoring our fallen veterans.
Let's remember the naval officer who never left Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on December 7, 1941, and the soldier who landed on the shores of Normandy, France, but never returned home to his loved ones. And let's think about young troops who were deployed to Vietnam and made the ultimate sacrifice, as well as the young reservists who did the same in Afghanistan or Iraq.
If it were not for these heroes and their selflessness and those courageous souls who cared more about the preservation of freedom and our way of life than their own safety, not only would there not be a Memorial Day, but not a United States of America where we can enjoy our freedom, pursue our happiness and live in peace.
May God Bless all of our fallen soldiers, our veterans and our current troops; and may God continue to bless the United States of America.
John Bencivengo, Mayor
