Online Application Period for Hamilton’s Housing Choice Voucher Program (formerly known as “Section 8”) Waiting List Lottery System Set for August 13 - 17th

In an effort to provide residents with a fair and equitable system to determine the waiting list for local rental assistance, Hamilton’s Housing and Urban Development Office has announced that it will be conducting an online application process for its Housing Choice Voucher Program Waiting List from Monday, August 13, 2018 (beginning at 12:01 AM) through Friday, August 17, 2018 (ending at 11:59 PM).

The Housing Choice Voucher Program -- formerly known Section 8 – is a federally-funded rent subsidy program. Federal eligibility criteria from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development determine those who qualify for the program.  The current household income limits are as follows:

Due to the high demand for rental assistance and limited program funds, a lottery system will be used to randomly select 250 applicants that will then be placed on the waiting list.  The application process to register for this lottery system will be online only.

After the lottery is conducted, notifications will be mailed to all prospective applicants (including those who are not selected for the waiting list) by the Hamilton Township Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Office within 4 weeks after the closing of the online application period.

Individuals interested in applying for the lottery, but who do not have access to a computer or smartphone device with internet access, are reminded that various Township Government buildings (such as the Hamilton Township Public Library, Hamilton Township Bromley Neighborhood Service Center and the John O. Wilson Neighborhood Service Center) that offer computers for public use.

Before individuals begin the online application process, they must be prepared to provide the names, dates of birth, and Social Security Numbers available for all household members, as well as have income, assets, and expenses information for each household member.

After the successful 250 randomly selected applicants are placed on the program waiting list, they will still need to provide updated information to Hamilton’s HUD Office and meet U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development requirements (including income) at the time they reach the top of the waiting list.

Residents will be able to access the online application though Hamilton’s HUD Office website (HamiltonNJ.com/HUD) and the Hamilton Township website (HamiltonNJ.com - under the “Featured Items” section).
