How to Properly Dispose of Old/Unserviceable American Flags

Hamilton residents can properly dispose of old or unserviceable American flags by dropping the flags into one of two drop-off locations.  Drop-off boxes are located on the side of the Hamilton Township Municipal Building (2090 Greenwood Avenue, at the left side of the building if you are facing the front steps) or in front of the Hamilton Township Park Maintenance Building  in Veterans Park (located inside the south/Kuser Road entrance, across from the Field of Champions Wall).

Typically once a year (usually in the fall) the Hamilton Township Patriotic Committee works with Mercer County Division of Veteran Services and local veterans from American Legion Post 31 to hold a "flag retirement" ceremony.  American flags that are tattered, soiled or otherwise "unfit for display" are burned in a dignified manner in a pit in the ground during the ceremony (which is the approrpiate way to properly retire an unusable American flag).
