*Hamilton Township encompasses a geographical area of about 40 square miles. It contains approximately 300 centerline (one way) miles of roads and about 625 lane miles. It has a population of around 90,000.

*Approximately one hundred centerline miles of roads are deemed primary and must be cleared first.

*Hamilton is divided into eight (8) snow clearing zones. Plowing is done in all zones on the primary roads first. Once plowing begins on the secondary roads, the most populated zones are plowed first.

*Whenever necessary, plows will be redirected from their designated routes to clear the way for an emergency response vehicles, etc.

*Our Public Works Dept. is equipped with various sizes and types of plows and other equipment designed to expedite the clearing of snow from our township roads.

*Plows WILL NOT be lifted at driveways

County roads are cleared by Mercer County Road Dept [530-7510]

State roads are cleared by N.J. Dept. of Transportation [(732)308-4086]

A FEW QUICK TIPS:

* Vehicles should be removed from snow covered streets wherever possible.

* Drive only when necessary and prepare your vehicle for snow conditions.

* Never throw snow into streets.

* When clearing driveway openings, it is usually best to shovel snow to the left (if facing the street from your home).

* Plows will not be lifted at driveways.

1.  When possible all vehicles should be removed from snow covered roadways!

This allows our snow plows to clear the roadways curb to curb.

2.  Observe posted snow routes!

No Parking will be enforced when road is snow covered.

3.  Never shovel or throw snow into the roadway!

This can refreeze and cause roadway icing conditions.

4   Wait until the storm has subsided before clearing driveways!

During a continuous snow fall our plows may make several passes.

5.  When shoveling your driveway - Shovel snow to the right of the driveway (if you are facing the road)!

This allows the plow to deposit the shoveled snow away from driveway opening.  Also, see our tips for plowing a driveway.

6.  Do Not stand in the roadway or place objects along the curbline to reserve parking!

Objects placed in the street can lead to injury and/or property damage.

7.  Never tailgate snow plows or de-icing vehicles!

Snow Plows and De-icing vehicles make frequent stops and wide turns.

8.  Snow Plows and De-icing Vehicles travel at much slower speeds then posted!

Never attempt to pass a Snow Plow or De-Icing Vehicle.

9.  When traveling behind a plow be sure the plow operator can see you!

Position your vehicle so that the plow operator can see you in his drivers side mirror.
