Hamilton Township
Shade Tree Commission
Established in 2006, the Hamilton Township Shade Tree Commission is a group of 5 members who are appointed by the Mayor to serve a 1-year, 2-year, 3-year, 4-year or 5-year term. The work we do is completely volunteer and consists of one regularly scheduled monthly meeting and additional meetings (if needed) to inspect trees, care for newly planted trees and work on special projects such as grant proposals. Currently, the Commission is as follows:
Robert C. Poppert, Chairman
Kevin Meara, Council Liaison
Jim Hunter
Clinton Griggs
Harry Robinson
Ed Oravsky
Are you interested in trees and want to help?
The 4th Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm we meet at the Hamilton Township Municipal Building legal conference room (3rd floor), come meet with us and share your opinions and ideas.
Would you like a FREE SHADE TREE planted in front of your house? If so, please call 890-3645 or send your request to Rob Poppert at rpoppert@hamiltonnj.com . Please provide us your name, street address, telephone number and number of trees requested so that we may determine what species of tree is best suited for your curb side planting bed. The Shade Tree Commission is currently preparing a street tree planting plan and contract for Hamilton Township residents that have requested street trees. Each homeowner that has requested a shade tree will ne notified via the mail during the summer of the upcoming program. We hope to have this contract awarded for a Fall 2009 planting! Funds that make this program possible are being provided by real estate developer contributions to our tree replacement trust fund. Developers pay a fee into this fund when trees are removed from sites within the Township.
