Under the direction of our Animal Control Department, an ongoing program is conducted for the purpose of offering animals that have been abandoned to persons willing to furnish a new home. Our kennels are often populated by beautiful dogs and cats looking for a family to love. For a complete list of prospective pets available for adoption, please call the phone number shown above or visit our Animal Shelter at 2100 Sylvan Avenue directly behind the Hamilton Public Works Office.

Animal Control

Conduct animal education seminars, house stray and homeless animals in a clean & safe environment and coordinates the adoption of animals. Animal Control Officers enforce animal welfare laws and investigate complaints of cruelty to animals. Quarantine animals which have bitten humans and transport animals to the New Jersey State Lab to be analyzed for rabies. Provide 24 hour emergency service for injured, stray animals and remove stray animals from streets and public areas. Animal Control also manages the licensing of dogs, as well as pet shops and kennels throughout the Township. The Animal Shelter is operated in accordance with State and Local laws. Please call (609) 890-3550 between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon. Please call the Hamilton Township Police Department after hours at (609) 581-4000.

Child Health Conference

Hamilton Township offers numerous free Child Health Conferences each month. These clinics serve children from infancy up to age 6 and provide vaccines for Hamilton Township students, school age through college. The clinic is staffed by a licensed pediatrician and qualified Public Health Nurses. The services include: physical examinations, TB testing, lead screening and age appropriate immunizations as needed. This service is available for those without health insurance or whose insurance does not cover immunizations. Child Health Conference is available by appointment only.

Inspection of all retail food stores, hospitals, nursing homes, mobile food vendors, food preparation facilities, schools, churches, firehouses, child care centers, senior citizen centers, all of which must have a current retail food license.

Alcohol/Drug Counseling/Referral Hamilton Alliance Against Substance Abuse

Any resident of Hamilton Township who has or suspects he/she has an alcohol/drug problem or a member of their family has a problem may call the Health Department for a referral to the appropriate agency. Free information and referral is provided for anyone having any questions regarding a drug/alcohol related problem.

Environmental Health Services

Answers all complaints pertaining to air and water pollution and noise control. Investigates citizen's complaints pertaining to junk, rubbish, trash, debris and unsanitary living conditions. Also investigates high grass and/or weed complaints as well as overgrown shrubs, insect and rodent complaints. How to file a complaint information here.

Flu Immunization Clinics

Provided free of charge to community residents beginning in early fall. The program is targeted at the designated high risk population including: senior citizens, chronically ill, and handicapped individuals. We recommend that you consult with your physician if you have any questions as to whether you should receive this immunization.

Q.   Who should receive Pneumonia Vaccine?

Pneumonia Vaccine is available all year for everyone 65 years of age or older or persons of all ages who have chronic illnesses including diabetes, cardiac, or respiratory conditions. Please call 890-3884 to schedule an appointment.

Health Education

Provide information and literature to the public concerning personal health and public health programs. Works in conjunction with other sections of the Division of Health. Conducts classes and seminars concerning public health issues/topics and communicates with the community through newspapers, radio and speaking engagements.

Maternal/Child Health

A Public Health Nurse is available upon request to visit all new parents and newborn babies in the community. The purpose of this visit is to inform residents of the services available through the Division of Health and if necessary, refer them to any County, State, or private agency which may be of service to them. The Public Health Nurse will reinforce baby care practices, answer questions related to newborn/child care and family health. Appropriate educational materials are provided.

The Hamilton Center is located at 2279 St. Hwy. #33, Golden Crest Corporate Center, Suite 510, Hamilton NJ 08690.   Day and evening hours vary. For birth control counseling, pregnancy testing and contraceptive supplies to all ages.

Rabies Vaccination Clinic

Free rabies immunizations are offered for your dog/cat during the months of January, February and March on Saturdays.  Dates and times for these clinics will be announced.  Also, clinics are held the first Wednesday of June and September between the the hours of 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the McManimon Building, 320 Scully Avenue.  Cats must be in carriers and dogs must be leashed.  For more information please call (609) 890-3820 .

Senior Services

Health Screenings are performed once a month at the Bernice Muha Senior Center located at 409 Cypress Lane and the John O. Wilson Neighborhood Center located on 169Wilfred Ave.  The screenings include blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol screening, and Health Education as needed.   Call (609) 890-3686  for Cypress Lane site and (609) 890-393-6480 for Wilfred Ave site.

This section records all marriages, births and deaths which occur in Hamilton. The responsibilities of this section include: handling certified copies, burial permits, marriage applications and the issuing of marriage licenses on the basis of the application.

WIC Program

This program is a supplemental feeding program for pregnant/postpartum/breastfeeding women and children from birth to 5 years of age. Eligibility is based on income standards. Nutritional assessment and teaching are also provided. WIC contact information:
